The latest issue of Gym Class Magazine (a smashing mag that I’m a sometime contributor to) is pretty damn fine and has been getting great press from the likes of magCulture and Spanish Esquire. I was curious about the full-page pixelated artwork that features in the issue, so I got editor Steven Gregor to spill the beans:

“The two pixel adverts, run on the outside back cover and across the inside front and inside back covers, are made up of a number of 5mm squares, each coloured individually, based on popular adverts by Dior and Tom Ford. GCM #06 doesn’t include any adverts, so we thought it’d be fun to run original art on pages within the issue that readers might expect to see an advert. Because it’s the Magazine Fanboy Issue, we thought it appropriate for the original art to take inspiration from advertisements commonly found in glossy men’s magazines. We’re really happy with them … they’d make for a great feature wall made out of coloured tiles in the executive loos here at Gym Class Magazine HQ.”

So now you know. Gym Class #6 is out now and you can … you will … buy it here.
